SmartExams always cost $30.00 or less, depending on your insurance.

Never. Our goal is to help you get easy access to high quality, affordable care. If it turns out that we can't treat you through a SmartExam, then there's no charge to you.

We can bill the primary insurance plan on file with your care provider for your SmartExam, if we know that your insurance covers electronic visits. If you are asked to enter billing information, one of the following has occurred:
  • You do not have active insurance on file with your care provider
  • We have not confirmed that your primary insurance covers these services
If you believe this service is covered by your insurance plan, you may submit a claim to your insurance company to pursue reimbursement. Be aware that if this is not a covered service, the cost you pay during check-out will not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

We're always growing our list of pharmacies. For now, pick the closest pharmacy, or choose a national pharmacy chain. National chains can transfer prescriptions to their other locations.

Absolutely. Your provider can order prescription medications for you if they're needed, and send the prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of your choice.

Your provider will review the results of your SmartExam and provide you with the best course of treatment for your condition. Antibiotics will only be prescribed if they will help you.

When deciding whether to prescribe antibiotics, your provider takes several factors into account. First, based on your symptoms, your provider decides whether your condition is likely to be caused by bacteria or viruses. Antibiotics may help kill bacteria, but they don't kill viruses. Most coughs, colds, flu, sore throats, and runny noses are caused by viruses. Taking antibiotics for viral infections will not cure those viral infections.

Next, your provider weighs the potential harmful effects of antibiotics. Antibiotics may cause new symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In fact, antibiotics cause the most emergency visits for adverse drug events: nearly 100,000 adults are treated in emergency departments each year because of adverse events from antibiotics.

Your provider will also consider how resistant your condition may be to antibiotics. Antibiotic resistance is an urgent worldwide health crisis that can have serious consequences for current and future generations. You may learn more about the growing, worldwide problem of antibiotic resistance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Drug prices change from time to time and sometimes they do so suddenly. Your provider will always consider the price of medications when creating your treatment plan. When possible they will recommend to you cheaper alternatives, including generic forms and non-prescription medications, that are appropriate for your condition.

Typically it takes about 10 minutes for patients to finish their SmartExam. Just like when you come in to the doctor's office, we ask different questions based on your unique symptoms and condition, so the actual time it takes to finish will depend on your unique circumstances.

We also always make sure that your SmartExam is part of your medical record, and that your doctor sees what care you're getting.

Yes. That's one of the unique values of getting care through the SmartExam service. Unlike the care you get from some online care companies, we make sure that all your care is coordinated with your overall care needs, and it's always included in your medical record.

You never need to use video for a SmartExam. For some conditions, we may want to see a picture to help us understand what's going on. If needed, you can use pictures from your mobile device or your computer.
